The four things nobody would tell you

The four things nobody would tell you

Having come a long way from where I had started my Data Science journey, I realise there is not one MOOC/book, which would enlighten an individual with everything one needs to know about Data Science. But there are few intangible details, condensed in four points, which would be essential to just anybody. Here it goes:

1. Make more mistakes

“Any mistake is a wonderful revenue” – Jack Ma

Every successful people were intimidated at start, but past that step there will be a wiser version of you. So, go ahead, make a move, be it starting a MOOC or participating in your first Kaggle competition, cause you will never be 100% ready.

2. Read more books

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr Seuss.

No matter how many video lectures you have gone through, but there is nothing better than the books. Read books on Statistics, Machine Learning, Business, Mindset, and even fictions. Books shape your ideas, it gives you better perception about everything.

3. Ask

“To really ask is to open the door to the whirlwind.” – Anne Rice

Many a times, you will come across topics or statements which would not align with your understanding. It may be coming from really good book, or from some popular Data Scientist. Do not move ahead with ambiguity in your mind, but care to ask. Nobody takes offence for a question.

4. Stand out

“A pink rose among a thousand white daisies stands out; be likewise.” – Matshona Dhliwayo

If you want to stay ahead of competition, stand out. Be it your LinkedIn profile, you resume or your portfolio, be creative with it. Don’t just do it in a way everyone does it. Cause its equally important to sell yourself, as much as your knowledge is.
