Average sleep time in America

Average sleep time in America

About the original visualisation showed in data.world

  • Data are correct

BUT

  • There is no distinction between workdays and holidays or weekends
  • There is no description of evolution over time

Let’s try to add that information without losing anything

Exploration

Conclusions

  • The influence of age
    • Teens sleep more. I could never have imagined!
    • While we are in working age, the older we are the less we sleep.
    • Once retired, we sleep more.
  • Over the years
    • Except for people over 65 years, from 2003 to 2017 sleep time has increased. As time goes by, we sleep more. That means that either we have less free time, which I don’t believe, either we work less: our way of life has improved.
  • Day type
    • We sleep more in weekends and in holidays than in workdays (triangles above circles). Really!
  • The influence of sex
    • Women sleep slightly more than men (blue figures above red ones). Is it due to the housework gender gap?
